From the installation engineering desk of the Ruibit Aquarium factory, Foshan — where the problems are caught before the crate is opened
Here is a number to sit with before anything else: a filled SKU 722 tank weighs more than 2,000 kilograms. That is not furniture placement. That is a structural intervention in the building — the same weight as a small car, parked permanently on a patch of floor the size of a dining table. Most installation problems start before the tank is even unwrapped: the floor was never checked, the clearance was never measured, the outlet was never upgraded. This article is the checklist we wish every buyer would run before the truck arrives.
1. Floor load: the 1.2kg-per-liter rule
The most common oversight in large tank installation is floor deflection. The tank's weight is not just the water — it is the Jinjing ultra-white glass, the 304 stainless steel skeleton, the substrate, the cabinet. Every liter of tank volume needs to be budgeted at 1.2kg to 1.5kg, not at the 1kg a water-only estimate would suggest.
Wooden joist floors — joists under the tank location need localized reinforcement (sistering). This is not negotiable; it is physics with a hammer.
Concrete slabs — the floor must be level within 2mm over a 3-meter span. A floor that is out of level by more than that creates point-loading: the weight concentrates on one edge of the glass, and the seam carries what the floor should have carried.
2. Space: the 60cm rule
A luxury display should look integrated, but "built-in" and "sealed in" are different things.
Vertical clearance: a minimum of 60cm of open space above the water line — room for the LED lighting to come out, large décor to go in, and long-reach tools to work during aquascaping. The tank will need maintenance weekly; the ceiling should never be part of the problem.
Rear ventilation: a 5-10cm gap between cabinet and wall. Trapped humidity behind a large cabinet becomes wall mold and corrodes electrical ports — slowly, invisibly, and expensively. The gap is the cheapest insurance in this article.
3. Electrical: the dedicated circuit
Large systems run multiple heaters and high-intensity lighting at once. On a shared circuit, that is a tripping breaker, scheduled for the most inconvenient evening possible. The tank gets a dedicated 20A circuit — that is the difference between a system and a surprise.
And if the tank is a smart system, verify the Wi-Fi at the installation site before the cabinet goes in. IoT leak detection and remote temperature monitoring are only as good as the WPA2/WPA3 connection that carries their alerts. A smart tank in a dead zone is a dumb tank with expensive sensors.

4. Water management: ATO and drainage
Manually changing water on a 400-gallon tank is not maintenance; it is a part-time job with a siphon.
One-click drainage. A dedicated drainage line from the cabinet base to the nearest floor drain, so nutrient export takes minutes instead of an evening. The drainage port turns the most hated chore into a button press.
Automatic top-off. Large tanks lose significant volume to evaporation, and a dropping water level drifts salinity and risks pump dry-run. An ATO connected to a RO/DI reservoir holds the level automatically. This is not a convenience on a large tank; it is the difference between stable chemistry and a chemistry set.
Three checkpoints before final positioning
GFCI outlet — mandatory. Every outlet behind the tank must be ground-fault protected. Water and electricity share this wall for years; the GFCI is the referee.
Laser leveling. High-precision level, not a bubble level balanced on top. A tank out of level by even 1 degree loads the Wacker 121 seams unevenly, every day, forever — fatigue you will not see until the seam gives up.
Lighting suspension. For open-top rimless models, confirm the ceiling or wall can support the suspended LED array. The light hangs over water and people; its mounting deserves the same respect as the tank's.
The box that was not ticked
We have seen the expensive version of every item on this list. The 2,000kg tank on a floor that was never checked — discovered in year two as a hairline crack in the bottom seam. The cabinet against the wall with no gap — found out as mold behind the tank. The pump that ran dry because there was no ATO — found out by the fish.
None of those owners did anything dramatic wrong. They just skipped a checkbox. The checklist exists because every failure it prevents is boring, predictable, and entirely avoidable. The most expensive mistake in large tank ownership is not dramatic. It is a box that was not ticked.
